Christ's Love in Action: Bringing God to People, and People to God

Music at SUMC

Music at SUMC

The goal of our music program is to bring the beauty and vitality of music to our worship, and to use these ensembles as a way to grow in our discipleship of Jesus Christ.

CHANCEL CHOIR

OThe Chancel Choir is the primary vocal ensemble for the church. The choir leads the music for 11:00 AM Sunday worship each Sunday, occasionally for 8:30 AM worship, and for other special worship services from September through June. The Choir sings a wide variety of music. Highlights of the choral season include annual Advent & Easter programs, sometimes with orchestral accompaniment; special Lenten and Holy Week services; and the 11:00 PM Christmas Eve service.

KIDZ CHOIR

Children, preK – 4th Grade, participate in a variety of activities including singing in worship services, and presenting special choir programs at Christmas, often using bells, hand chimes, and costumed drama. Kidz Choir sings once a month during one of the Sunday morning worship services. Perhaps the highlight of the choir season is the annual Christmas musical presented in early- to mid-December. Occasionally, a spring musical is presented in April or May.

WORZZHIP YOUTH CHOIR

Our Worzzhip Youth Choir is for youth in grades 5 – 12. This group divides its rehearsal time between singing and playing handbells. The Worzzhip Youth Choir enjoys singing and ringing a wide variety of music. Worzzhip sings or plays every four to six weeks for one of the weekly worship services.

REDEEMER’S SONG

This ensemble of both youth and adults leads the music for the Praise & Worship Service at 9:45 on Sundays. Rehearsals are held each Sunday at 2:45 PM in the Sanctuary. Singers and/or instrumentalists are always needed. If you have a gift for this ministry and would like to participate, please contact Rich Wunderlin or David Smith, for more information.

HAND BELLS

Our handbell ensembles include the Alleluia Ringers, Jubilate Ringers, and Worzzhip Youth Ensemble. These ensembles are open to youth and adults of all skill levels. Each group plays every four to six weeks for one of the weekly services.

For more information on any of these ensembles, or to find out how to join them, please contact David Smith, Director of Music Ministries, music@sumcdisciples.org
